Today’s modern family looks a lot different than it did during the “Leave it to Beaver” years. We have come a long way in accepting and recognizing that a family does not necessarily mean a mom, dad and 2.5 kids. What remains constant is that the “family” still provides the basic building blocks to who we are. When families are healthy, children grow up learning to trust others and have a sense of self and importance in their world. Family is where children learn how relationships work by modeling how others in their family interact, connect and show love. When the family is thriving, children and grown-ups alike are happy and can participate fully in becoming positive contributing members of our world.
When the family is broken however, there can be long-term consequences that can impact both the mental and physical health of each member of the family. Anything from substance use and abuse, teen pregnancy, depression, eating disorders, failing grades and anxiety can set in and disrupt the family system. These consequences can be prevented or if they are already in place, can be remedied with the help of family therapy. If your family is in need of therapy or even a “tune up” so to speak, we can work together to create a plan that can get your family back on its feet again.
