What is Coupleʼs Counseling?
Couples counseling is a form of treatment that works by addressing problems and issues within a coupleʼs relationship or marriage. It includes relationship skill-building as well as discovering underlying issues and negative communication patterns in order to make repairs and build stronger, healthier love connections. Couples counseling can also include sex therapy and infertility counseling. I also help couples considering a separation or divorce.
How long does counseling take before you see results?
It depends on the work that needs to be done. Generally clients begin to see change take place within 6-8 sessions. The client and therapist work together in deciding on length of treatment and evaluate progress throughout therapy.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently I donʼt accept health insurance. However, I am more than happy to give you an invoice statement that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. I cannot guarantee that your insurance will partially or fully reimburse you for my services.
Do you have adjustable rates?
If you are unable to pay for my standard rate, I am able to work with you in coming up with an adjusted rate based on your financial situation. I believe that mental health is important for everyone and not just those who can afford treatment.
What does counseling look like?
Counseling methods and modalities can vary depending on the work that is being done but generally it is a mix between traditional talk therapy, skills training, psycho-education, and behavior analysis and modification. Additionally, counseling offers you a safe space and time to explore your thoughts, emotions, struggles, questions and concerns.
What is Family Therapy?
Family therapy works by bringing family members together to work on any ongoing issues that have not been able to be resolved within the family alone. These can include helping a family go through a difficult transition period such as separation or divorce, coping with a family memberʼs illness or addiction, parenting concerns, adoption issues, cut-offs, and communication issues to name a few. Therapy includes looking at family patterns and structures that are not working and developing new patterns and structures that bring harmony back to the home.
Therapy may also include communication skills training, parent-education, coping skills training and emotion regulation skills training.
Do you work with children and adolescents?
Yes, I love working with children and adolescents. I have extensive experience working with children both as a school-based therapist and as a school teacher and offer play therapy, sand tray therapy, and expressive art therapy that allows children to work through tough emotions and challenges.
